Release 24.04 of the CareAR App delivers the following:
- Scan function enhancements
- Screen share UX enhancements
- Support for numeric-only Assist session codes
New Features
Scan function enhancements
Count Indicator for Captured and Processed Images
When performing a scan, we now enable a count indicator for captured images and processed images.
Full Create, Read, Update, Delete (CRUD) Operations
From the CareAR app, the user now has full Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD) operations available to them on a project and the scans associated with a project.
Alphabetical sort on Scan-related lists
Lists presented in the Scan function are now sorted alphabetically. This applies to lists of projects, scans, and ML models.
UX Enhancement – Delete
When a user accesses the ellipsis menu (“…”) on a scan and selects the Delete option, it now says “Delete scan” instead of “Delete project”.
Disable camera during scan data processing
With release 24.02, after scanning an object with the CareAR app and during image processing, the app kept the camera enabled in the background.
With the release of 24.04, while the CareAR app is processing scan data, we now disable the device’s camera.
Screen share UX enhancements
Addition of Screen Share Control Widget for Windows
We implemented the active screen share control widget (for quick toggle of microphone or for cancelling the screen share) on Windows.
Removal of Laser Pointer
Due to technical limitations, we are unable to make access to the laser pointer across all screen sharing scenarios. The feedback from our users is that the inconsistent support of the laser pointer during screen sharing made a for a suboptimal user experience. As a result, we decided to remove the laser pointer tool during screen sharing.
Enable mobile users with screen sharing without active camera
When we debuted the screen share function, mobile users had to first activate their camera and enable streaming to expose the screen sharing tool. This UX behaviour was inconsistent with the support provided on the desktop app. Generally, this was not an optimal flow for mobile users who want to share their screen.
With this release, we elevate access to the screen sharing tool to the bottom tool tray and relocate the toolbar to the upper right-hand corner of the mobile screen.
Numeric Assist Session Codes
Prior to release 24.04, the session code associated with a CareAR Assist session was explicitly an alphanumeric string with 6 characters. A character could be composed of either a Latin letter or an integer. In some regions, the pronunciation of Latin letters is challenging for non-native speakers and hinders usability.
With this release, we introduced the option to force Assist session codes to be numeric digits only if that’s the preference of the CareAR customer. To enhance security, we extended the length of numeric session codes to have 8 characters. To enable numeric only session codes, a CareAR customer will need to contact CareAR Support and have this setting enabled on their CareAR tenant.
The desktop and mobile clients have been updated in release 24.04 to support the option for a numeric-only session code.
